GUEST POST: Lacey from My Boyfriend Hates Makeup: Neon Splatter Mani

Pin It Hello, lovely readers of Lace & Lacquers!

Your regularly scheduled Lacey is moving so she asked for a couple of guest posters.  I am your substitute Lacey for the day, LOL.  I wanted to come up with something bright and fun to match the usual tone on this site, so today I have a neon splatter/graffiti/whatever you want to call it mani for you!

First, I painted my nails a pale base color. This is Friends Forever, Right? from the China Glaze Giver collection. It may look white but it is the palest of the pale pinks.  This is three thin coats and topcoat.

After it dried, I tagged my boyfriend in for some lung power.  He used a dunkins straw for the splatter.  I used a rainbow of neons, including China Glaze, Sinful Colors and Nire's Desire, an indie company.  Clearly, this look requires some cleanup...

But, after you spend forever with an elf concealer brush and some acetone, you get an awesome finished look!

I wanted to end with this last pic, which is the tinfoil/back drop that was used for the mani.  I think it looks really fun and I actually used it as the background for my phone for a while.

Thank you, Lacey S, for letting me guest post! I hope yall enjoyed my splatter/graffiti mani!  If you'd like to come follow me, you can find me below.

Thanks for reading this post!

Lacey (C)

GUEST POST: Kacy from Glitter Galaxy: Ellagee ELL-sa

Pin It Hi guys!! I'm visiting from over at Glitter Galaxy! I'm here to keep ya a little busy while my buddy Lacey gets all moved in! Let's get started shall we?
Tonight I have for you a special Ellagee polish. It's a group custom for a group of us ladies that are HUGE Ellagee fans! If that sounds like you, then you need to look it up on Facebook! This polish is called Ell-sa. Can you guess what movie that's based off of? Of course you can! ELL-sa is an absolutely perfect ice blue linear holo. My pictures are taken inside, but I can't wait to see these things glow in the sunlight tomorrow!

For my mani I used 3 coats of ELL-sa, however I could've got away with only using 2. I topped it off with my Ellagee Glass topcoat. The formula on ELL-sa was a breeze to work with and it was a fast drier as well.

Just look at all of those rainbows!!! It would be the perfect shade of blue to match Elsa's dress in the movie Frozen. Ellagee is one of the sweetest indie makers that I've met, and she's quickly becoming one of my favorites! You can find Ellagee on Facebook and you can find her shop here. She has some pretty amazing polishes up her sleeve that you can view on her shop link that I posted above. Make sure you go check that out. One thing that I really like about her top coat, is I don't have any shrinkage or anything like that!
That's all I have for tonight. I'm headed to bed so I can get up early and get some Thanksgiving side dishes baked even though I have to work. I wish you and all of your family a very safe and blessed Thanksgiving! Until next time, take care!! XOXO

XXXX,
 and Kacy

GUEST POST: Tia from Iced Lacquer: Essie Stripe Nail Art

Hi Lace & Lacquer readers! While Lacey is moving I'm going to be helping out by doing some guest posting for her! If you've never read my blog before my name is Tia and I run Iced Lacquer. Since the holidays are quickly approaching (oh man, Thanksgiving is THIS WEEK!) I thought it would be fun to do a look that is just a tiny bit festive. I also wanted to do something a little bit more fun than my usual swatch photos. Let's get to it!

For this stripey look I was totally inspired by a post from Globe & Nail, which she actually posted right around this time last year! I am not great with striping tape, but I really like how she made the sections irregularly spaced. It meant I didn't have to panic when my sections weren't perfectly even as I put down pieces of striping tape.

I had three recent Essie purchases sitting on my desk and thought they seemed pretty fitting! I started with two coats of the nude/tan "Take It Outside" and painted on my stripes with "Bahama Mama" and "The Perfect Cover Up."

Pictured from left to right these are "Take It Outside," "The Perfect Cover Up," and "Bahama Mama."

I goofed up in a couple of spots, but overall I'm pretty happy with this look! It kind of reminds me of a Christmas scarf lol! I like how the stripe colors are tones of red and green, which totally make me think of Christmas, but aren't super traditional true red and green shades. It's a bit more muted and subtle, especially when I look at it from a distance.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this look and my guest post! You can find me on most social media sites as Iced Lacquer, but I'm most active on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I also co-host a podcast with my friend Courtney called Nail Newscast if you're into those! ;)

Thanks for having me, Lacey! And thanks for reading!

Love,

AND TIA!

GUEST POST: Tara Heath - Nailed It: 6 Ways to Keep Your Nails in Tip-Top Condition

Pin It Hi guys! Today is something a little different. No swatches or reviews today, but today I have an article that Tara Heath specifically wrote for my blog to share with you guys on 6 ways to keep your nails looking great!

Tara Heath is a freelance writer in Southern California. With a background in beauty, she knows that keeping your nails healthy is very important and tries to implement these tips as often as she can.

You know those yellowish, frail nails that nobody wants to have and that a lot of women hide under layers of thick, opaque polish? And, on the other hand, what about those girls who always have the perfectly strong nails that never split even when they're pretty long? Fact is, a lot of all that is genetic. Some women were just born this way. If your mom has soft, peeling nails, yours are probably not far off. But having bad genes is no excuse, ladies. Nails are a business card and one of the first things people notice. So let's see how we can make them feel and look better with the tricks of the trade.

Respect your nails. If you want to change your nail color, but you're all out of nail polish, don't cut corners and try to get them clean by using your own nails or sharp objects from your beauty kit. This event is a trauma for your nails, because it breaks and hurts them. Nail polish remover is rather cheap and you can usually find it close to home, so make an effort and get some. Splits or tears can ruin a good day. If you're not one to miss out on your beautiful, long nails and refuse to just cut them when one abandons ship, then repair them with glue or clear polish immediately. Otherwise, you risk losing them, and who wants that?

Understand your nails. Wear a base coat under your color to keep your nails from turning strange colors. A transparent coat is your best bet. It will protect your nails from the pigments in colored nail polish, which have the tendency to stain and leave your nails looking old and exhausted. File your nails from center to outside, never the other way around, or back and forth. The only way to not damage your nails or break them is the first, so keep to that. Many women break their nails simply when trying to make them look better, which is unfortunate and a bit ironical. Filing your fingernails' corners too much causes them to break, so refrain from doing so excessively.

Care for you nails. Help your nails from the inside out. Vitamin B, potassium, iron, and calcium are great for the vitality of your nails and can easily be found in foods like spinach, bananas, eggs, seafood, and tofu. Yellow nails are easily fixed with lemon juice, but make sure you have no cuts close to your nails if you don't want to scream in pain. Another good way of cleaning your tinted nails is brushing them with a bit of toothpaste that contains hydrogen peroxide.

Protect your nails. Use sunblock on your hands. This will prevent your nails from getting brittle in hot weather, not to mention your skin will be smooth. Wearing gloves is also a good idea. Take a tip from the ladies of the past and find some nice winter, autumn, and spring gloves which will protect your fragile skin from the damage the sun and pollution can make. Keep your nails hydrated with almond oil rubbed vigorously. Waxy lip balm can also be applied to your nails to keep them in top shape. It's just a matter of preference.

Get the best out of your nails. For the best looking nails, apply two coats of nail polish. But even if you're late, or if the taxi is outside, wait for the first layer to dry before applying a second one. If not, you'll have the dreaded bubbly manicure and all your efforts will be in vain. Slightly rounded nails will make your fingers look longer, so choose a shape and a color that goes well with your hands. Almond nails are all the rage right now, but if your fingers don't look good with that shape, don't wear it. Nails are more about looking clean and beautiful than about fashion.

Pamper your nails. Get a hand massage as often as you can if you've just cut your nails and want them back. This type of stimulation makes nails grow faster and we all know how slowly nails grow when all you want them to be is long and lovely. Finally, make sure you don't think about your nails obsessively. Many women make nails a top subject in their lives, but if you get into some basic rituals, you won't have to worry too much about perfection. Nails are sensitive and easy to hurt, but sooner or later they just grow back.

Guest Post From MixedMama

Hey Lovelies! It's MixedMama from MixedMama.blogspot.com. I am so excited to be a guest post today for Lace & Lacquers! Today I will be showing you theses super adorable Nautical Nails that I created. For this look I used 1 coat of Essie's Bobbing For Baubles on my ring and thumb nails and then the rest of my nails with Wet n' Wild's I Red a Good Book. I stamped MASH plate 46 for the stripes and free handed the anchors using Sally Hansen Extreme White On. To finish off the look I applied 2 coats of Jordana's Crystal Glitter and sealed it all in with Seche Vite.

This look is not only great for Summer but also 4th of July, Memorial Day or even Labor Day. Now for the fun part! Want to know how to create the anchor? Check out my step-by-step tutorial below!

Time On My Nails Guest Post

Pin It Hello Lacey's Readers! I'm Julie, visiting from Time On My Nails. I'm very excited for this opportunity to do my first guest blog - thanks Lacey! I'm thrilled to be able to share some nail art with all of you today.

As those of us who paint our nails far too often (even though there's no such thing...) know, Bad Nail Days are just as possible as Bad Hair Days. Sometimes, you sit down to do a manicure, and nothing goes right. It doesn't look as good as it did in your head, you keep bumping your nails into one another and other things, and then you finish - and the top coat shrinks, wrinkles, or gets something stuck in it. My point is, any number of things can go wrong! But I, for one, am no quitter; I am rarely patient enough to take it all off and start again. So it is essential to have some manicure-saving nail art tricks up your sleeve!
